Environmental disaster reduction 2 F satellite successfully launched! All-weather, all-weather ecological environment remote sensing monitoring adds new members
At 6: 53 on August 9, China successfully launched the No.2 F satellite for environmental disaster reduction at Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. Environmental disaster reduction satellite 2 F is an operational satellite supported by the National Civil Space Infrastructure medium-and long-term Development Plan (2015-2025) and jointly led by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Ministry of Emergency Management. The successful launch of the star marks the official networking operation of the environmental series "2 2" constellation (2 optical, 2 SAR) approved by the 13th Five-Year Plan, and the initial formation of a multi-element, all-weather, all-weather medium spatial resolution global ecological environment remote sensing monitoring capability.
The index design of the No.2 F star for environmental disaster reduction is consistent with that of the No.2 E star for environmental disaster reduction. It adopts a sun-synchronous orbit with an orbit height of 499 kilometers and a design life of 8 years. The satellite is equipped with two payloads, a 5-meter S-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and an emergency data processing subsystem. Among them, the 5-meter S-band SAR payload has the advantage of being less affected by cloud, rain and other weather, which can make up for the deficiency that optical satellites are easily affected by weather factors. At the same time, the imaging spatial resolution/width can reach 5 meters/35 kilometers or 25 meters/100 kilometers respectively. The emergency data processing subsystem quickly extracts and preprocesses hot spot information through on-board real-time imaging, it can greatly improve the satellite remote sensing data support capacity and emergency response capacity of marine oil spill and other sudden water pollution events.

Environmental disaster reduction satellite 2 F will realize networking observation with environmental disaster reduction satellite 2 E, doubling the acquisition and coverage capability of 5 m S-band SAR payload data compared with a single satellite, effectively making up for the shortage of effective optical satellite remote sensing data in cloudy and rainy areas in the south, and greatly improving the operational monitoring capability of all-weather and all-day ecological environment remote sensing. In terms of water environment remote sensing monitoring, it can provide important data source guarantee for environmental emergencies such as enteromorpha, algal blooms, oil spills, pollution accidents and investigation of key risk sources, and real-time monitoring of coastline changes and river drying up and cutting off. In terms of natural ecological monitoring, it can provide important data support for the supervision of key areas such as ecological protection red lines and natural reserves, land use classification, vegetation growth monitoring and biomass assessment.

In the next step, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will actively work with the participating units of the project to do a good job in the on-orbit testing and application evaluation of the satellite project, so as to effectively support the in-depth fight against pollution and achieve "precise pollution control, scientific pollution control, and legal pollution control." "Pollution" provides important data guarantee.
